Personal profile

ShortBio

PhD in computer science (2022) by Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), where he studied self-supervised deep learning techniques in the small data regime as a member of the Learning and Machine Perception team (LAMP) at the Computer Vision Centre (CVC). MSc in Telecommunications Engineering by The University of the Basque Country (2005). After working for three years as a technology consultant in Madrid and London (Accenture, Management Solutions), from 2008 to 2010 -thanks to a grant from La Caixa Foundation-, he completed the Erasmus Mundus Master CIMET (Colour in Informatics and Media Technology) in machine vision and colour science, visiting the Universities of Granada, Saint-Etienne, Gjøvik and Amsterdam. He is currently the scientific director of the Visual Core at Tecnalia, where, as a senior researcher in computer vision, has been participating since 2010 in image understanding projects over conventional, 3D and hyperspectral images for the biomedical, agricultural, recycling/waste management and steel industries. He is also interested in multimodal and generative AI modelling, as well as in the characterization of materials through hyperspectral imaging and advanced spectroscopic modalities (e.g. Raman, LIBS, FTIR), together with deep and machine learning-based analysis techniques, along with Bayesian approaches. In 2014 he received the 1st EARTO Award on Innovation for the development of a histopathological image retrieval system. He has published several papers in Q1 journals and conferences, currently supervises two ongoing PhD theses, holds four patents and he is a reviewer of various journals and conferences on computer vision and signal processing.
