Dr. Aitor Barrio Ulanga, PhD in organic chemistry by Complutense University of SPAIN in the modification of natural products. In 2008, he joined TECNALIA in fire group in which took experience in the characterization of fire reaction and fire resistance of construction products for 3 years and up to now he is focused on improvement of biobased materials for application in building sector as a lead researcher. Some achievements include a 2 PhD thesis supervised (“Isophorone Diisocyanate Based Flexible Polyurethane Foams and Fire” and “Sustainable functional flame retardant coatings for application in Wood varnishes”), 25 ISI publications and an h index value of 10. Project coordinator of LIGNICOAT project (H2020-BBI-2021-2024) “Sustainable COATings based on LIGNIn resins and bio-additives with improved fire, corrosion and biological resistance” focused on the development of sustainable coatings based on lignin. Responsible of 20 private contracts with companies for the development of products mainly for construction applications. Project coordinator of REHAP project: (H2020-SPIRE03-2016-2020) ”Systemic approach to Reduce Energy demand and CO2 emissions of processes that transform agroforestry waste into High Added Value Products” focused in the revalorization of agro-forestry wastes and the development of high added value products for construction sector. Project coordinator of HIFIVENT project (FP7-SME-2013-2016) “High durable and fire performing WPC for ventilated façades”, focused on the improvement of the fire performance of WPC for application in ventilated facades. Researcher in charge of the fire research in OSIRYS project (FP7-NMP-2013-2017) “Forest based composites for façades and interior partitions to improve indoor air quality in new builds and restoration” coordinated by TECNALIA and focused in a biobased multilayer façade.
