Personal profile

ShortBio

Aitor Kortajarena received a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of the Basque Country in 1995. He joined LABEIN Technological Centre immediately as a research engineer at the Electrotechnical Department.

From 1995 to 2004 Aitor was involved in research projects in the field of electrical power equipment for transmission and distribution networks. Particularly, projects related to the life assessment of high voltage insulated equipment and prototypes, based on multistress ageing and characterization by means of diagnostic tests. These projects were aimed to identify and quantify the main cause and risk of failure of the equipment based on stresses such as AC voltage, current, lightning impulse, short-circuit events, temperature or thermal cycles. These projects, together with the service activities performed at the laboratory and onsite on large rotating machines, high voltage cables and transformers made Aitor an expert in diagnostic technologies such as partial discharge testing.

In 2004 he was promoted to the position of Manager of the Electrical Labs of LABEIN, which turned into TECNALIA Research & Innovation in 2011. From this position he has been leading the technological services activities and research projects performed to date in fields like insulated cables, rotating machines, transformers or electrical vehicle.

Aitor has contributed as an author to more than 20 papers published in academic and industrial publications and international conference events held in Spain, France, UK, Greece, Germany, US, Colombia and Panamá.
