Personal profile

ShortBio

Alain Andrés (Doctor Cum Laude in Artificial Intelligence) works as a Data Scientist at TECNALIA, where he researches and applies solutions based on Artificial Intelligence (AI).

He graduated in Telecommunications Engineering (2017) from the School of Engineering of Bilbao (UPV/EHU) and later completed a Master's in Telecommunications Engineering (2019), earning the degree of Senior Engineer in this field. During this period, he was part of the Formula Student Bizkaia team, where he was in charge of the control and telemetry group (2015-2017). He also did an internship in the field of cybersecurity (2017-2018), focusing on issues arising from quantum algorithms and the pseudonymization of personal data. Additionally, he completed a semester of studies at Eastern New Mexico University (2018), specializing in Data Analysis.

Since 2023, he has also been a Doctor in AI, with Reinforcement Learning (RL) as his specialty. His research focused on addressing the exploration-exploitation dilemma in RL; specifically, on developing strategies that allow effective exploration of highly complex environments. During his thesis, he spent time with the Autonomous Agents Group at the University of Edinburgh, recognized for its research with AI-instructed autonomous systems.

His research experience has provided him with extensive knowledge in technologies such as Intrinsic Motivation, Imitation Learning, Deep Learning, and more. He also has cross-disciplinary skills in other branches of Machine Learning, both in supervised and unsupervised data domains, including Clustering, Explainable AI, Computer Vision, Generative AI, among others. Alain is the author of multiple research papers presented at internationally recognized conferences and journals, and he currently supervises several undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
