Personal profile

ShortBio

Alberto Martínez is bachelor in Industrial Engineering (1989) at the Basque Country University (UPV-EHU) and MSc on Social Technology (2005-06). His 24-year experience in applied research, approaching technology towards the improvement of health and the quality of life for the elderly people or with disabilities, had always a focus on market impact strategies. In 2008 he stepped up from senior researcher to project manager. His first projects dealt with accessible applications and cognitive rehabilitation, such as COMPORTA (Accessible Portable Communicator for speech and motion impaired people) and GRECO (Intelligent Audiovisual System for cognitive rehabilitation). After that he started research specialization on human behaviour and routines monitoring for telecare and e-health assistance, working in projects related to Ambient Assisted Living (AAL). Worth to mention a projects chronology like AmIE (Ambient Intelligence for the Elderly; ITEA2, 2007-2009), INREDIS (Interoperability platforms for the people with disabilities interacting with the environment; CENIT, Spanish R&D Prog., 2007-2009), BEDMOND project (Behaviour pattern based assistant for the early detection and management of neurodegenerative diseases; AAL Joint Prog. 1st call, 2009-2012) or VITALITY (Monitoring & Managing your Health and Well-being; ITEA2-INNPACTO, 2011-2014). Nowadays he’s coordinating a Basque-strategic project involving all the ageing-relevant R&D actors (entitled ELDERBASK; Basque Research Prog., 2011-2014) addressing the development of a market-oriented person-monitoring platform, providing rich information for third parties (health professionals but, namely, industry, empowering an added-value applications market). He is also currently participating in BUTLER IP project (Ubiquitous, Secure Internet of Things with Location and Context Awareness, FP7-IoT call 2012).
