Borja Urquizu Gomez is a computer engineer from the University of Deusto with a Master's in Information Security. He began his professional career in 2003 at Informática Euskadi, focusing on monitoring and developing tools to facilitate maintenance in AS/400 environments as well as remote management of branches and ATMs. In 2005, he started working at Panda Security, where he performed various tasks. For approximately one year, he was involved in C programming in Linux/Unix environments, participating in the development of a cloud-based email management system (Trustlayer) and the development of appliances for perimeter defense (Famila GateDefender). In 2009, he began working at the European Software Institute as a researcher focused on low-level security and embedded devices. In 2013, he joined the startup WiMi5, where he worked as the principal backend developer, integrating NOSQL, BigData, WS, WebRTC, and ProtocolBuffers technologies. In 2017, he started working at Tecnalia Research & Innovation on multiple projects related to distributed systems, Blockchain, and cybersecurity, distributed ledger systems, and high-performance computing. He is currently part of the GEI at Tecnalia in the field of Cybersecurity, focusing on the applicability of systems and algorithms that protect information privacy and integrity using new technologies. As part of this team, he has contributed to several projects, including Chainbus, DatuJabe, Codisava, Adichain, and Poseidon (H2020), and is also an active collaborator with the Hyperledger Foundation. He is currently involved in the development of the Brokel platform.
