Personal profile

ShortBio

I have a B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree in Industrial Engineering (2001) and a Ph.D. in Electric Power Systems (2018), both by the University of the Basque Country, and work as a senior researcher and project manager for TECNALIA’s Energy, Climate and Urban Transition Unit.

Since 2001, I have focused my career in the economic analysis of innovative business models for Distributed Energy Resources (Renewable Energy Resources, Combined Heat and Power, Active Electricity Demand Response, Electric Vehicles), Energy Communities and Microgrids. In order to perform the analyses of business models, I have closely followed the construction of the integrated EU electricity market and learned how it affected the regulatory frameworks and electricity market conditions in several European countries.

I have led the economic assessment of the technological solutions proposed in several publicly co-funded projects, including some of the major projects dealing with smart grids since the EU Framework Programme 6, as well as in dedicated projects for the main Spanish utilities and the TSO. In addition, I participated in international, (IEA, CIGRE) European (Wind Europe, BRIDGE) and national working groups to contribute to the efficient integration of Distributed Energy Resources in the power system.

I co-authored several scientific publications, more than 20 of which are indexed in Scopus, and specialised conferences. I am also co-author of chapters in 3 books.

I am a regular reviewer in some Q1 scientific journals and support the Spanish Government in the revision of project proposals for different National R&D Programmes. I have also reviewed proposals for KIC INNOENERGY, as TECNALIA has a framework agreement with KIC INNOENERGY IBERIA S.L. to provide a technical assessment service.
