Personal profile

ShortBio

As a researcher, he has worked for over 15 years in the field of energy planning and the simulation and optimization models of energy systems. He has published more than 35 articles in indexed journals, supervised undergraduate and master's theses, directed one doctoral thesis, and is currently supervising another. His h-index is 20 (Scopus) and 23 (Scholar), with a total of 1289 citations (Scopus) and 1904 (Scholar). He holds a European PhD in Information Systems Engineering (URJC, 2014), with the highest distinction cum laude, and an extraordinary doctoral award. He has a degree in Experimental Physics from the University of Cantabria (2007) and a Diploma in Environment and Sustainable Development from the University of Oviedo (2007). He holds a Master's in Renewable Energies, Fuel Cells, and Hydrogen (UIMP-CSIC, 2009) and a Master's in Decision Engineering (URJC, 2011). He has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at IFE in Norway (2014-2015) and at IMDEA Energy (Madrid) (2015-2019). From 2008 to 2010, he worked in the business sector as a programmer (INDRA) and as an energy efficiency engineer (ATISAE, now TÜV SÜD). In his area of expertise, he has participated in nearly thirty regional, national, and European projects, including FP7, H2020, and Horizon Europe, among other programs. Since 2025, he is PI of the MENTES Network project (a Spanish strategic network of MICINN). Since June 2019, he has been a member of the Energy Planning Platform at TECNALIA and participates in projects related to energy planning and regional decarbonization. Notable examples he has participated in or directed include PEIEC 2030 Extremadura, FAEN Asturias 2030, the 2050 Roadmap, and the 2030 Energy Transition and Climate Change Strategy of the Basque Country. More recently, he has been involved in the Net Zero Basque Industrial Super Cluster initiative and the BIDERATU (elkartek) and TRANSIENCE (Horizon Europe) projects.
