PhD-Eng. Eduardo Román received the B.Eng. degree in Telecommunications, speciality Radiocommunications, in the University of Basque Country (Spain), year 1999. In 2007, he received the PhD degree in the field of Photovoltaics (Viability of Photovoltaic Systems with multiple maximum power point tracking systems). At present, he is leading the PV Systems team within Energy, Climate and Urban Transition Unit His experience is mainly focused on Renewable Energy Sources (wind energy, solar thermal, solar thermoelectric, PV, hybrid systems, geothermal) with emphasis in Photovoltaics, above all those aspects related to "Balance of System (BOS)" components, PV modules (materials) and electronics, Building Integration PV (BIPV) and Concentration PV (CPV) technologies, Electronic technologies (Hardware and firmware) development Communications (Telecom, wired, etc.). He shows a great experience in leading RTD projects in the field of RES, for both public and private sector, with more than 20 leaded projects in the last 10 years.
He has taken part as main researcher in several projects related to PV (BFIRST, APOLLON, ENERPACK, SOPHIA, PURE, PVTRIN, CHEETAH), leading PURE project about the promotion of BIPV, BFIRST, about a new technology for encapsulation of PV cells, PVSITES, or BIPV-INSIGHT, related to a SW tool for the simulation and modelling of BIPV systems. From 2008-2010, 2012-2014 and 2016-2020, he has been member of the Management Board (Direction Committee) of the Spanish Photovoltaic Industry Association (ASIF) and member of the Direction Committee of UNEF (Spanish Union of Photovoltaics). He is member of the Spanish certification Committee AEN/CTN 82 and Spanish representative of the BIPV working group. Since 2013, he is co-ordinating the Spanish Technology platform FOTOPLAT, together with UNEF.
In the international side, in 2018 he has been appointed as member of the Steering Committee of the European PV technology and innovation Platform (ETIP-PV), whose participation started in 2014, taking part in the LCOE and BIPV working groups. In 2015, he became Spanish representative in the Task 15 IEA-PVPS on BIPV systems, and also member of the EERA-JPV (European Energy Research Alliance, Joint Program in PV), co-ordinating the SP5, Subprogramme on PV systems. Spanish representative in the Task 17 PV in transport and TECNALIA0s representative in SolarPower Europe, the European PV association.
He is also the author/co-author of more than 50 papers and conference communications in national and international forums and conferences (h=13) and reviewer of multiple journals and congresses: the IEEE-IECON 2005-2010 (Power Electronics track) of the Industrial Electronics Society, Solar Energy Journal (since 2008); ASME Journal of Solar Energy Engineering (2011), IEEE Photovoltaics Specialists Congress (2011-2017). Participation in the Marine technology Master, 2018-2021, Basque country University. Topic: PV solar energy in the marine environment.
Inventor of 6 patents in the PV field:
