Enrique Areizaga graduated in Physics from the University of the Basque Country. He later obtained a Master's degree from the same university after his work at the TNO laboratories in The Hague (Netherlands). In 2017, he received certification in 'Entrepreneurship' from MIT (Massachusetts, USA). At TECNALIA, he works on the application of advanced digital technologies, mainly in High-Performance Network Architectures (cloud computing application), collaborating at the European level on digital autonomy and the development of the 'Cloud continuum' and 'Data Spaces'. His focus is on the development, design, and implementation of opportunities with commercial exploitation potential, resulting from the combination of digital disciplines applied to the needs of clients from different sectors, both in the national and international markets, contributing his knowledge in asset commercialization acquired during his tenure as general/commercial director at the spinoff GPONDoctor, with the aim of fostering the digital value proposition of the company's various businesses, to promote specialization in key areas and to improve the scientific and technological capabilities of the community.
Enrique has mainly worked his career in the field of R&D in the domain of broadband communications and lately in digital transformation with a solid background in strategy design and implementation, business development, marketing, and team development. He participates in national and international committees and working groups related to the development of ICT and the information society. He has promoted, coordinated, and participated in many research projects within local, national, and international public funding frameworks, including the EU Framework Programs since 1992. He has also been responsible for generating the GPONDoctor asset and its subsequent international commercialization, being the manager of the startups Wyzartel SL and GPONDoctor S.Coop from 2011 to 2021, marketing the product line in more than 30 countries and with more than 70 international clients.
