Personal profile
ShortBio
Degree in Telecommunications Engineering in 1998 from the University of the Basque Country, Spain.
From 1998 to 2010 he worked with Robotiker Technology Center, in electronic design for different sectors, mainly in the area of renewable energies and in particular wind energy. Since 2008 he has been working in the area of Marine Energies.
In 2011, Robotiker and other technology centers merged into TECNALIA, the largest private research organization in Spain, where Germán Pérez is currently Head of Offshore Renewables, Climate and Urban Transition Unit. He is currently working on several research projects related to offshore wind, being the project manager in TECNALIA of the European projects IRPWIND (FP7), LIFES50+ (H2020), TWIND (H2020) and TAILWIND (HEU). He is leading the technical development of a semi-submersible structure for floating offshore wind (NAUTILUS). He has managed projects for floating wind development in the framework of different financing programs of the Basque Government (NETs, ETORGAI, ELKARTEK, HAZITEK) Spanish Government (INNPACTO, RETOS COLABORACIÓN, CIEN) and European Commission (FP7, H2020, HEU).
He is the author or co-author of more than 30 papers and conference presentations at national and international conferences and co-author of three patents: one related to an offshore connection system for wave energy collectors; another one related to NAUTILUS floating offshore wind semi-submersible concept; another one related to the installation of subsea cables. Co-author of a chapter of the book ‘Renewable Energy from the Oceans’, The Institution of Engineering and Technology vol. 129.
