Ibai Laña (Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence) lives in Bilbao and works at Tecnalia as a Data Analyst. He graduated in Computer Engineering from the University of Deusto, Spain, in 2006, obtained a Master's in Advanced Artificial Intelligence from UNED, Spain, in 2014, and a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence from UPV/EHU in 2018. He is currently a senior researcher at Tecnalia. His research interests lie at the intersection of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), machine learning, traffic data analysis, and data science. He has addressed urban traffic forecasting problems, where he has applied machine learning models and evolutionary algorithms to achieve longer-term and more accurate predictions. He is also interested in other traffic-related challenges, such as origin-destination matrix estimation or the detection of points of interest and trajectories. Working with large volumes of data, such as traffic flow measurements or call detail records, has led him to master big data processing tools and NoSQL databases. He has also been a visiting fellow at the Knowledge Engineering and Discovery Research Institute (KEDRI) at Auckland University of Technology (AUT).
