Personal profile
ShortBio
Dr Javier Lou Franco received his PhD in Biotechnology (2022) at Queen’s University Belfast (School of Biological Sciences). Previously, a BSc in Biotechnology at Universidad de Zaragoza (2015) and a MSc in Nanostructured Materials for Nanotechnological Applications (2016) at the same university. As a novel researcher, he worked in the development of nanobiosensors using gold nanoparticles (nanoprisms and nanorods) under the supervision of Dr. Jesús Martínez de la Fuente, between 2014-2016. In 2017 he joined the FoodSmartphone Project (H2020-MSCA-ITN) at Queen’s University Belfast where he started his doctoral studies which revolved around the study of catalytic and spectroscopic properties of gold nanostars and their application in the development of smartphone-based biosensors targeting foodborne pathogens. Since January 2021, he works in the Health Division of Tecnalia.
