Personal profile

ShortBio

Jokin Hidalgo received his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry in 2007 (University of the Basque Country, Spain), and his Master's Degree in Polymer Science and Technology in 2013 (National Distance Education University (UNED)). Since 2006, he has been working at Tecnalia. He spent the first nine years in the innovative and sustainable materials department, where his research focused on the analysis and development of new compounds with a reduced environmental impact. Since 2015, he has been working on the recovery of critical materials, where his research focuses on the use of advanced hydro/solvo/ionometallurgy processes for the recovery of critical metals from multiple sources such as permanent magnets, batteries or catalysts. Through FP7 projects (INNOBITE, IRCOW, HIFIVENT …), H2020 (REE4EU, PLATIRUS, CROCODILE…) and other industrial projects at Tecnalia, Jokin has gained experience in the recovery of valuable materials from waste. He has also acquired expertise in the physicochemical characterization of initial products and final materials (DSC, TGA, FTIR, TXRF, mechanical and rheological characterization, etc.). Currently, he is part of the "Circularity Area" of the "Energy, Climate and Urban Transition" unit, where he develops recovery processes within the framework of European "Horizon Europe" projects (RHINOCEROS, REEPRODUCE, LICORNE) and projects funded by the Basque Government (ELKARTEK and HAZITEK). He is gaining experience in the recovery of critical raw materials, such as rare earth elements or precious metals.
