Master’s in environmental management and a degree in biological sciences with over 15 years of experience in the fields of sustainability and climate change, including both adaptation and mitigation. He has participated in designing and generating emissions inventories and in the definition of strategies and plans for emissions control for public and private organizations. He has also participated in developing CDM projects, including energy infrastructures such as hydroelectric and wind power plants located in Latin America, where he has an outstanding track record of project execution and coordination. In the framework of these projects, he has determined the baseline, the analysis of electrical systems, the calculation of emission factors for national grids, the economic evaluation of measures and plans, the quantification of the expected impact, etc. Currently, he works at Tecnalia and focuses on the analysis of climate change, its associated impacts, the definition of adaptation measures and assessing their costs and benefits. His career in this field has focused on assisting the generation of adaptive policies, participating in the definition of various strategies and plans for different levels of government (local, regional, etc.) and adaptation pathways for infrastructures. Also noteworthy is his participation in the vulnerability analysis of assets and the study of interdependencies between different infrastructures, sectors and activities. He has led the development of different climate services in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, health, etc. for multilateral organizations, national governments, etc. combining data from the Copernicus program and other sources. In all these projects he has demonstrated his ability to coordinate participatory and multidisciplinary international projects, as well as to design and implement tools, services and studies aimed at guiding decision-making in areas such as sustainability, resilience and adaptation to climate change. He has developed different projects for the Copernicus program, including activities such as detection and analysis of user needs, gap analysis for several Copernicus services; market assessment of Copernicus products for specific downstream applications, development of new datasets and applications for the C3S, technical evaluation of downstream applications, design of new value chains and business models, etc. In recent years, he has maintained active participation in forums aimed at the standardization and/or certification of climate services and other activities related to adaptation to climate change (including ISO and CEN technical committees and groups). During his career he has acquired knowledge of a very diverse group of financing sources applicable to adaptation to climate change, including international cooperation instruments, European funds and national instruments. It is also worth highlighting the development of projects focused on climate proofing of investments and assets. In 2021, he began teaching at Comillas Pontifical University, attached to the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Higher Technical School of Engineering (ICAI) . He is the main professor of Numerical Modeling in Environmental Processes subject and contributes to Numerical Modeling in Energy Systems subject. |
