José Ángel Gutiérrez Olabarria earned his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Deusto in 1991, followed by a Master’s degree in Robotics and Automation from ETSII/IT in Bilbao in 1992. He completed partially his Ph.D. in Engineering and received an Advanced Studies Diploma from ETSII/IT by 2008. Since 1992, he has been employed at Tecnalia, formerly known as Robotiker.
In his role as a Project Manager, he engages in market activities with clients and suppliers. As a Senior Engineer specialising in Computer Vision and sensors in the Smart Systems Business area, he leads projects in artificial vision control applications. These projects are under contract, Hazitek, and involve European coordination. His work also includes software analysis, design, and programming of quality control and industrial computing applications.
In addition to his primary roles, he develops courses, presentations, seminars, and more. He holds six patents and has published 20 papers in his field.From 2000 to 2006, he served as an Associate Professor of the Industrial Perception subject in the Automation and Electronics specialisation at the School of Engineering of the University of Deusto (ESIDE). Since 2022, he has been a Lecturer in the Master’s degree in Electronic Automation and Control, teaching the subject of Computer Vision at the University of Deusto. He is also a Professor in the Master’s programme in Computer Vision at Tech Technological University, conducted in the 2021-2022 editions.
In 2006, he was honoured with the international ONCE award for his research in new technologies for individuals with visual impairments. From 2017 to 2021, he served as a member of the Joint Scientific and Industrial Advisory Board of the E.M.V.A (European Machine Vision Association) Forum."
