Personal profile

ShortBio

Mr. Jimeno is B. Sc. in Industrial Engineering and M. Sc. in Electric Engineering (University of the Basque Country, 2001). He has been working at the TECNALIA since 2001, and as a senior researcher since 2011, on R&D projects related to Smart Grids.

His main lines of work include the development of technologies that enable the integration of distributed generation, as well as the active management of demand in the electricity sector. Specifically, he has designed and developed control systems for electrical microgrids, demand aggregation models for participation in flexibility markets, and tools to facilitate the operation of the distribution network using distributed energy resources. He has also participated in the definition of information models based on IEC standards (CIM, IEC 61850) for the exchange of information between different agents in the electricity sector. Currently, he is conducting research on the development of flexibility management systems and their participation in congestion and balancing markets, as well as the development of platforms for P2P (peer-to-peer) energy exchange in Local Energy Communities.

Mr. Jimeno has participated in the Smart Grid Coordination Group within the framework of the European Commission’s M/490 mandate. He is currently involved in the Smart Grid International Research Facility Network (SIRFN) of the International Energy Agency (IEA) in the working group on Microgrids in the field of experimental research facilities.

Mr. Jimeno has participated in more than 15 projects funded by the European Commission, national organizations, and private sector electric companies. He has contributed to more than 35 scientific publications and conferences. He is co-author of a patent related to energy management in microgrids
