Personal profile

ShortBio

Obtained an M.Sc. degree in Industrial Automation and Electronic Engineering from the University of Deusto in 2008 and an Master in Business Administration and Management - Executive MBA from the University of the Basque Country in 2019.

Since 2008, has worked as a researcher at Tecnalia Research & Innovation, contributing to various projects in the field of ocean energy. He has Participated in more than 20 research projects and authored/co-authored more than 20 publications presented at conferences, congresses or scientific journals. Developed extensive expertise in numerical modeling and control of wave and wind energy converters, as well as in designing techno-economic models to optimize marine energy farms (e.g., electrical layouts, device sizing, mooring systems) for specific locations.

Currently pursuing a PhD at the University of the Basque Country in the Department of Automatics and Systems Engineering. Research focuses on enhancing the efficiency of mechanical-to-electrical energy conversion in OWC wave energy converters. For this issue, successfully designed and developed an electrical test bench for in-depth generator analysis and implemented advanced sensor systems to support predictive and preventive maintenance strategies. The results obtained have been used to conduct a detailed study of the Mutriku plant, leading to proposed modifications in its control systems.

Since 2017, he has gained practical experience in offshore operations, designing and actively participating in the installation and maintenance of floating devices in the Bimep testing area as part of projects such as OPERA and HARSHLAB offshore materials and components laboratory. He has also gained expertise in operating and managing of ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles), conducting underwater inspections, and defining and installing sensor systems for predictive maintenance of floating platforms to improve operational efficiency and reliability.

He has supervised around 10 final year engineering projects focused on renewable energy at the Bilbao School of Engineering. Between 2018 and 2024, collaborated as a lecturer in the Master MORE and later in the Master REM programs at the Bilbao School of Engineering, delivering the course "Installation, Operation, and Maintenance of Marine Energy Arrays."
