Personal profile

ShortBio

PhD in Automatic Control and Systems Engineering from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), complemented by an Executive MBA in Business Administration and Management from the same institution. Since 2008, he has developed his research activity at Tecnalia Research & Innovation, participating in more than thirty projects related to offshore renewable energy. His scientific output includes thirteen indexed publications and twenty‑one contributions to international conferences and congresses.

His doctoral research focused on improving the performance of OWC devices through the optimization of the turbine–generator assembly, increased energy efficiency, and the application of advanced monitoring techniques enabling safe generator overloading. His experience also encompasses numerical modelling, simulation and control of wave‑energy and floating‑wind converters, as well as the development of techno‑economic models aimed at optimizing offshore energy farms.

He has solid practical experience in offshore operations, participating in the design and execution of installation, mooring, grid‑connection and maintenance activities (including ROV operations) for floating devices at the Bimep test site, within projects such as OPERA and HARSHLAB, the latter being an offshore laboratory for which he serves as co‑responsible. His background also includes the design and implementation of sensing and monitoring systems aimed at predictive maintenance of offshore devices.

His technical profile, strengthened by an Executive MBA, enables the integration of strategic, economic and management criteria in the evaluation, preparation and development of R&D projects, while also providing a global perspective in client engagement and the technological valorization of new solutions.

In the academic field, he has supervised more than ten bachelor’s and master’s theses related to marine renewable‑energy technologies. Between 2017 and 2024, he lectured at the Bilbao School of Engineering, contributing to the REM and MORE master’s programmes in the course “Installation, Operation and Maintenance of Marine Energy”.
