ShortBio

Leire Goikoetxea has a degree in Biochemistry from the University of the Basque Country (UPV / EHU 2000) and a Master in Innovation and Technology Management (2003). She joined Tecnalia in 2000, collaborating in research projects in Tisular Engineering, focusing her activity on the evaluation of the biocompatibility of biomaterials in contact with mammalian cells, and which has continued until today in the Biomaterials group of the Division of Health of Tecnalia.

She is an expert in cell cultures and in the biological characterization of biomaterials, through the evaluation of the cellular response in vitro (analysis of the toxicity of materials in cells, analysis of adhesion, proliferation and cell death, analysis of the expression of specific biomolecules of the cell line used, analysis of the content of the genetic material ...) using spectrophotometric and fluorometric techniques, enzymatic techniques and immunofluorescence techniques, among others.

In addition, she has collaborated in projects related to drug delivery and transport systems, as well as in projects related to the functionalization of surfaces for in vitro diagnostic applications. Moreover, she has participated in the development of LOC devices for the detection of disease biomarkers in different biofluids (blood plasma, tears…). Her research activity is reflected in international scientific articles, and in numerous contributions to congress.
