Mikel Barrado is a Telecommunications Engineer from the University of Navarra and holds 3 postgraduate degrees related to innovation, technology management and business administration from Dortmund University and the University of the Basque Country; DEUSTO Business School; and ESADE Business & Law School.
A professional with 20 years of experience, he currently works at the TECNALIA research institute as market and business development director of the Energy, Climate and Urban Transition Unit. Previously he worked in different teams at TECNALIA, as well as a researcher at the ‘FRAUNHOFER Institute for Telecommunications’ in Berlin (Germany).
Mikel is an expert in the market and information and communication technologies such as virtual / augmented reality, the internet of things, 3D printing or artificial intelligence and their application to Industry 4.0 and, in particular, to Energy Infrastructures, Smart Buildings and Smart Cities. Mikel collaborates with the main associations in the sector as a member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Cluster of Smart Technologies for Buildings, Cities and Industry (Smartech-SECARTYS Cluster), member of the Smart Cities Interplatform Group (GICI), member of the Board of Directors of the Basque Cluster of Equipment for Buildings and Cities (HABIC Cluster) and member of the Coordination Committee of the BIM Commission of the Basque Country.
He is a regular lecturer on the latest technologies and trends and teaches on the Master's degree in ‘Smart Cities’ at the Universidad a Distancia de Madrid and the Escuela Técnica EADIC.
