Nerea Ruiz received the B.Sc. degree in industrial engineering and the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the School of Engineering, University of the Basque Country, Bilbao, Spain, in 1999 and 2002, respectively.  Since 2003, she works as a researcher engineer at the Energy, Climate and Urban Transition Area at TECNALIA, Spain, on several regional and European research projects mainly related to the Smart Grids (ELEXIA, COORDINET, eNeuron, SMARTNET, UPGRID, ADDRESS, EUDEEP, etc.). Her special field of interest includes the design and implementation of novel algorithms for the modeling and optimal control of distributed energy resources for their participation in various demand response programs. More specifically she has developed several aggregation algorithms that enable the participation of the demand in different electricity markets (congestion resolution, balancing, etc.). Additionally, she works in the field of optimal management of energy communities.
