Oscar Lage currently leads Cybersecurity and Blockchain at Tecnalia, overseeing the strategy and research of about 50 scientists. The research focus of the group includes Applied Cryptography, Cyber Threat Intelligence, AI security, Hardware Security, QKD, and Quantum Cryptography. His significant contribution to cybersecurity applied to blockchain has positioned him as an influential figure in this field. Oscar is a board member of Aurea Pay&Pass Solutions and an advisory board member of several companies, participates in blockchain and cybersecurity standardization groups in UNE/ISO, and is part of the OECD’s Blockchain Expert Policy Advisory Board (BEPAB). In 2018, Oscar was selected by Expansión as one of the top talents in blockchain technology.
Oscar is a prominent speaker and regular contributor to general media (TV, radio, and press), responsible for the scientific dissemination section “Welcome to the Future” on Radio Euskadi. He is a co-author of several books and a member of important global alliances in the field of blockchain, such as Hyperledger, EEA, and Alastria, as well as global cybersecurity associations, such as the European Cybersecurity Organization (ECSO). In recent years, Oscar has participated in the organizing and scientific committee of several scientific congresses and is currently the General Chair of the International Congress on Blockchain and Applications. His current research interests include information security, applied cryptography, blockchain, new applications of disruptive technologies, and innovation in business models.
Academic Background
Oscar Lage holds a PhD from UPV/EHU (Cum Laude, IEEE Spain Best Doctoral Thesis 2023), a Master of Advanced Studies in Computer Science, and a degree in Computer Engineering, both from the University of Deusto. In the academic field, Oscar is a Professor Doctor in charge at the University of Deusto, where he teaches subjects in both undergraduate and master’s programs. In addition, he collaborates with other universities, such as UPV/EHU, Mondragon Unibertsitatea, University of Alcalá or ESIC, teaching subjects related to cybersecurity, blockchain or strategic management in their master’s programs. Currently, he is a Thesis Supervisor for three doctoral theses at two universities (UPV/EHU and University of Deusto) and advises other doctoral students in their research. His dedication to teaching and his expertise in his field have enriched the educational experience of his students and broadened the academic reach of the institutions he is associated with.
