ShortBio

Dr. Pablo de Agustín (male), PhD. in Mechanical Engineering (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, 2015), MSc in Applied Physics (Universidad Complutense de Madrid, 2010) and bachelors’ degree in Physics (Universidad del País Vasco, 2007). Senior researcher at TECNALIA’s Energy, Climate and Urban Transition Unit since 2016, focused on energy efficiency and renewable energies integration in the built enviroment, demand response on buildings and sustainable energy transition from building to city scale for urban transformation.
Previously, he worked on Spanish National Geographic Institute (2008-2011) and the Eduardo Torroja Institute for Construction Science (IETcc-CSIC, 2011-2015) carrying out research projects on solar energy supply on isolated scientific facilities, solar cooling and heating prototypes, renewable energies integration in buildings and emissions reductions. He was also visiting scholar at the Solar Energy Lab of the University of Winsconsin-Madinson on 2013.
His professional background includes simulation and experimental works focused, mainly, on energy efficiency, in-building demand response, data analytics from IoT sensors and smart-meters, buildings as energy storage systems, monitoring and performance assessment of conventional and innovative (trigeneration and self-consumption solar heating and cooling systems, both thermal and photovoltaics) HVAC systems in buildings, and energy transition planning at district and urban level. His expertise includes EU funded RTD projects on energy retrofitting of buildings (FP7 BRICKER; H2020 BERTIM) and advanced building physics and DR modelling (H2020 MOEEBIUS, H2020 HOLISDER), end-users engagement on energy transition (H drOp) and technology-based consultant work in energy baseline definition, benchmarking and public authorities' energy transition planning projects (Integrated Energy Intensity Mapping of Dubai, Bilbao City Council's Energy Action Plan, Durango’s Energy and Climate Plan). Last years he has been focusing his research into demand side management on buildings and districts, local energy communities, decision makers empowerment and GIS tools, and sustaible urban regeneration. He is fluent in both English and Spanish, using them in his professional day-to-day activities. He also speaks Italian and Basque, languages applied in particular projects too.
