He is Industrial Engineer from the University of the Basque Country in 1988, PhD in Engineering from the University of the Basque Country in 1991 and Expert in Business and Technology Management from Deusto Business School, 2014. Since 1988 he has been a lecturer at the University of the Basque Country at the Bilbao School of Engineering, and has been a Professor of Electronic Technology from 1997 to the date.

In 1992 he joined ROBOTIKER-TECNALIA technology centre, combining his research work with teaching at the University of the Basque Country. From his beginnings at ROBOTIKER-TECNALIA, he has focused his lines of research in the field of the application of electronic technology to the industrial sector, directing his lines of research since 2000 to the energy sector and specifically to Renewable Energies. In 2011, with the merger of Robotiker into Tecnalia Research & Innovation, he was Technology Director of the Tecnalia Energy Unit until 2012. In 2012, Tecnalia's Energy and Environment Division was created, where he has served as Director of Operations and Director of Human Resources until 2021. He is currently the Human Resources Director at Tecnalia's Energy, Climate and Urban Transition Unit.

As a result of the research carried out, he has a large number of scientific publications and he is co-author of 8 patents and a utility model.

He combines his part-time teaching activity with his activity at Tecnalia Research and Innovation Technology Centre. He is involved in joint activities between both entities such as the Technological Classrooms of the company and the cooperation and doctorate programmes.
