Stefan Schuster is a seasoned professional with over 30 years of experience in ICT, holding an MSc in Software and Systems Engineering and a BSc in Industrial Psychology from the Technical University of Berlin. His expertise spans software process improvement, process modeling, SOA, cloud technologies, and cybersecurity. He co-founded and served as Technical Director of Gamepro, S.A. (2000–2004), leading the development of 3D, 2D, and online games. From 2004 to 2010, he was Unit Manager at the European Software Institute, overseeing EU-funded projects and the "Service-centric Enterprise Interoperability" cluster. He served as Chief Information Officer at TECNALIA for nine years, leading a team of 30 in driving digital transformation, strategic IT initiatives, and innovation. He mentored his successor over three years before transitioning to his current role as member of the Security and Compliance team at TECNALIA. He has led and contributed to numerous international projects, including ATHENA (FP6) and COIN (FP7), and chaired key conferences such as ICCBSS 2008, EuromedSPI 2011, and SEPG-LA 2014. He is the editor of Part 1 of the Mass Surveillance study for the European Parliament’s STOA, and contributed to high-level policy events on online privacy and cybersecurity. His work is grounded in research, innovation, and leadership, with a strong focus on process excellence, enterprise interoperability, and secure digital solutions.
