Five-year degree in Chemistry, specializing in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (Autonomous University of Madrid, 1987). PhD in Chemistry (University of the Basque Country, 1994). Post-Doctoral fellow (1995–1996) at the Center for Biological Research (CIB), Spanish Higher Council of Scientific Research (CSIC). Collaborator Researcher (1997–2004) at the Unit of Biochemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, University of the Basque Country. Researcher of the Biotechnology Group (2004-2010), Department of Sustainable Chemistry, LEIA C.D.T. Foundation. Extensive experience for more than 35 years in the fields of Microbiology and Biotechnology. Coordinator of the Industrial Biotechnology and Biorefinery Group of the Spanish Technology Platform for Sustainable Chemistry – SusChem-Spain (2005-2014). He is author of 13 papers (ISI indexed), 1 book chapter and holds 6 patents. He has a wide experience in the implementation of R&D projects. Current work is focused to the production of bioproducts through fermentation and biocatalysis, and in downstream technologies.
