MAELSTROM has received the "Atlantic Project" Award in the category "Healthy Oceans and Resilient Coasts"

Prize

Description

The MAELSTROM project has received, last October 20th, the Atlantic Project Award in the category Healthy Oceans and Resilient Coasts.
TECNALIA is one of the members of the European project MAELSTROM, which focuses on analyzing the impact of marine litter cleaning and recycling solutions in the oceans.
In this project, TECNALIA is developing several innovative solutions: a floating platform with underwater cable robot to collect marine litter on the seabed, a robot for detection, sorting and segregation of waste by type of material, a solution for recycling marine plastics into higher-value composites. We also do an LCA impact analysis work of these technologies.
The Atlantic Projects Awards present outstanding initiatives, successful collaborations and achievements relevant to the implementation of the Atlantic 2.0 Action Plan. Under the Healthy Oceans and Resilient Coasts category, the award recognizes projects,
initiatives and actions that work towards greater coastal resilience and strengthen the fight against marine pollution. The award ceremony took place during the 10th Atlantic Stakeholder Platform Conference, held at the Porto Cruise Terminal in Porto, Portugal and online at the Porto Cruise Terminal in Porto, Portugal and online. The theme of this year's conference was Atlantic Future: new synergies and innovations for a sustainable ocean economy. The conference focused on providing information on
the key activities of the Atlantic 2.0 Action Plan and the challenges to achieve sustainable blue growth and contribute to greater cooperation and territorial cohesion in the Atlantic area, both in the EU and internationally.
