Abstract

Distributed generation and developments in Information and Communications Technology enabled energy consumption in a decentralized way. This decentralization has led to new Low Voltage level configurations like self-consumption. New policies and regulations around this concept are developing worldwide to facilitate and promote photovoltaic installations for self-consumption in residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. This paper presents a comparative analysis of individual self-consumption concepts in three countries, Spain, Romania and Ecuador. The economic advantage of self-consumption operation regarding the scenario without renewable is presented for each country. Comparative analysis among each location is discussed regarding energy and economic saving. Besides, some improvements in the self-consumption regulations are suggested to maximize the economic benefits of this type of installation.
