Abstract

The materials world is considered an inspiring trend of research and has played a dominant role in the evolution of human civilization throughout history. The secrets behind the development of a new generation of materials are being revealed to adapt to the increasing needs of the aerospace, automotive, and other industries, which need improved performance and tailored capabilities from structural or functional materials. Consequently, the era of using smart materials as structural and functional materials has begun and these materials have the ability to modify their physical features in response to specific stimuli. In particular, thermo-responsive smart materials, including thermochromic and thermoelectric materials, play a critical role in different types of applications, including sensors, actuators, and energy-harvesting devices. his chapter provides an insight into the innovative methods available to develop specific smart materials that demonstrate efficient, robust, and sustainable thermochromic and thermoelectric properties by considering material selection, characterization, device fabrication, and potential applications.
