An Advanced Circular and Agile Manufacturing Ecosystem for Smart Design and Product Lifecycle Management

Adopting circular economy in manufacturing industry has become a must both for ensuring long term sustainability of our world as well as the growth of world economies. This duality calls for advance digital solutions that enable industries to have a in depth knowledge of their manufacturing processes in relation to the use of resources, energy, waste generation as well as clear circular economy (CE) ()indicators. These CE indicators allow industry to understand the real impact of these processes and what sustainable and business decisions should be made to improve their product manufacturing process in terms of resource consumption (energy, water, raw materials) and waste generation and emissions. This paper presents a framework for circular manufacturing developed in KYKLOS 4.0, identifies digital services for smart design and product optimization, and suggests circularity indicators validated in the automotive industry. KYKLOS 4.0 Platform and services set the digital grounds for a sustainable and responsible manufacturing industry with full awareness of their impact in the world as well as their responsibilities towards society.
