Abstract

An electrochemical investigation of arsenic in aqueous solutions was carried out in order to assess the possibility of removing it by reduction from As(III) to its elemental form. Arsine evolution was significant at potentials below -0.650 VSCE on Cu, and below -0.728 VSCE on Pt. As(V) could also be removed on Cu, with a larger evolution of arsine. When a potential equal to -0.560 VSCE was applied to an iron electrode, arsenic deposition took place simultaneously with iron dissolution, and arsine evolution was negligible.
