Abstract

The aim of the present work is to study in detail the main waste materials that contain dangerous metals in the Basque Country. Their concentration, their chemical composition and their manufacturing are determined. The industrial areas specially affected by these waste materials are steel production and smelting plants. The data have been gathered after an appropriate elaboration and have been put into a dBase III supported data base. The main results are shown in tables which show the amount of waste materials generated in the different sectors and provinces. A parallel study of the most significant metals that are present in the waste materials has also been made, with the aim of studying the possibilities of their processing for their re-use in the industry.
