    Abstract

The important effects of heat treatment on microstructure, mechanical properties and fractographic facets of a Ti-6A1-6v-2Sn alloy are presented, Beta phase annealing leads to a decrease in the ductility of the alloy independently of the morphology of the acicular microstructure produced. The alpha-beta annealed samples exhibit a higher toughness compared with the original mill annealed condition, reaching, after 4 hours at 900°C a similar level to beta heat treated and air cooled specimens. The very slight decrease in ductility of these samples makes this treatment very promising.
