Energy Cost Optimization in DC Railway Traction Systems Considering Degraded Scenarios

Abstract

This paper proposes a calculation methodology to study the impact on the energy cost of degraded situations in railway traction power grids. The disconnection of one of the power substations caused by an electrical failure generates an overload in the rest of the substations that may incur an additional energy cost due to power penalties. This paper aims to analyze these situations and proposes a methodology to determine the appropriateness of modifying the contracted power in degraded situations according to the number of hours of failure of the substation in question.
