Abstract

Interest towards Rapid Solidification (RS) of products has greatly increased during past years. Main reasons are both good properties obtained by means of high cooling rates and the development of new materials which cannot be produced by any conventional method. This report first describes the structural characteristics of metals obtained through rapid cooling and the present manufacturing processes. The second part analyzes applications of both crystalline and amorphous materials achieved by RS. At the same time, applications of products obtained directly from RS processes without further steps are also reviewed.
