Abstract
An intelligent approach to avoid centerless grinding process instabilities without the need for sensors is introduced. The model-based algorithm techniques detect the configurations and the conditions of the process under which instabilities appear. Based on the data obtained by using the proposed approach, a commercial software tool is now being developed to guide machine technicians in the setup process configuration. The approach is also applicable to other machining processes where chatter is also an important problem, such as in a milling process where similar theoretical approaches of the process are already employed.
