Abstract

A review of long-period fiber-grating (LPFG) -based interferometers is presented. Since the publication of the first woks focused on this topic, the applicability of these devices has been extended to many research fields. Emphasis is placed on communications, where they are designed for switching, WDM and filtering applications; and on sensors, where they can be used to measure parameters such as temperature, strain, torsion and chemical species.
