Abstract

A Networked Range Extended Electric Vehicle (NCV2015) has been developed as a mobile platform for researching in technologies, powertrain system components and control algorithms for the future generation of low environmental impact electrified vehicles. An overview of the NCV2015 vehicle, including its control & I2V (Infrastructure to Vehicle) communication systems are presented in this paper. Thanks to the Information & Communication Technologies (ICTs) and the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITSs), the intelligent and optimized energy management strategies (i-EMSs) can be designed and tested thus improving the vehicle performance in terms of range, fuel consumption, and emissions. The i-EMS installed on the NCV2015, including its benefits and future improvements, is finally presented and discussed in this paper.
