Abstract

A simplified mathematical sublimation model is presented to describe the freeze-drying rate. Freeze-drying was simulated for two pharmaceuticals with very different properties. Different operational profiles were obtained for the heating and pressure evolution. Differences observed in the pressure evolution derived from the behaviour of the dried layer surrounding the frozen nucleus are discussed. (P.M.T.)
