Abstract

A new scheme for simultaneous measurement of temperature and strain using fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and a thermochromic material is presented. It consists of a dual system with two different sensing elements included in the same fiber? a fiber Bragg grating to measure the strain and a thermochromic effect based optical fiber sensor to measure the temperature variations and to compensate the cross sensitivity of the fiber Bragg grating with temperature. Experimental results of the optical dual system are shown and discussed.
