Descripción

TECNALIA's solution for monitoring and detecting anomalies in sustainable logistics infrastructures wins the first prize in the Connect for Good Challenge.
The project, led by our colleague Iván Arakistain, presents an innovative solution for the sustainable transport of perishable products, eliminating the need for refrigerated transport vehicles, which involve high energy consumption.
The proposal is an IoT device equipped with a set of sensors and GPS, which allows efficient tracking and monitoring of the goods. The key to the solution is embedded artificial intelligence, which applies the artificial intelligence models in small chips present in a multitude of
artificial intelligence models in small chips present in a multitude of objects around us. Thanks to this technology, the proposal improves the logistics of perishable products, maintaining the cold chain. It also incorporates an "electronic nose" type sensor for monitoring and detecting volatile organic compounds. In this way, it can detect, for example, if a food product has gone bad.
This solution can reduce the cost per kilometer by 10 % by avoiding the transport of refrigerated cargo and contribute to emitting up to 64 tons less CO2 per year per truck.
The project directly affects Sustainable Development Goals 7, 11 and 13, which relate to affordable and clean energy, sustainable cities and communities, and climate action. Ultimately, the success of this project could pave the way for a more sustainable logistics industry, significantly reducing carbon emissions and operating costs.
