Resumen

The valorization of a tail-gas stream from carbon black manufacturing by membrane gas separation technology is proposed. Pure (H2, N, CO2) and mixed gas (N2 + H2 and N2 + H2 + CO2 ) permeation experiments by constant pressure technique were performed. A flat Matrimid 5218 membrane was used. Experimental results showed selectivity for hydrogen permeation around 100 with respect to nitrogen and around 4 with respect to CO2. Single gas permeability values were very similar to those obtained using multiple gas mixtures. The Matrimid membrane is suitable for hydrogen enrichment, thus, increasing the LHV value of the carbon black tail gas stream.
