Resumen

Two alternative approaches to the problem of fault diagnosis in real-size power systems are presented in this paper: an expert system currently in operation and a novel neural network prototype. An experimental comparison between both systems has been carried out on the basis of several test cases representing realistic fault situations. Whilst both systems provide correct diagnoses, the neural network operates faster and practically independently of the problem difficulty.
