Resumen

Multimodal virtual environments allow a fully immersive body experience for interaction and practice in digitally created contexts. They have often been proposed as relevant systems for learning (manual) procedures in a safer way, improving performances, or mastering speci–c skilled activities. However, the design of the multimodal interaction for training requires particular attention to ensure that at the end of the training process, the learned skills will be correctly transferred from the virtual to the real environment, and that there will not be any dependence from the training facilities. This chapter reviews how relevant haptic technologies could be designed or used for the acquisition and transfer of manual skills in training oriented systems.
