Resumen

Large-format additive manufacturing (LFAM) with metallic materials is reshaping the production landscape for large-scale components, enabling efficient, sustainable, and highly customizable solutions. This innovative process builds parts layer by layer directly from digital designs, reducing material waste, and offering unparalleled design flexibility. LFAM's ability to produce complex geometries and robust structures without size limitations positions it as a transformative technology in industries such as aerospace, automotive, oil and gas, marine, and construction. This chapter explores the applications of LFAM in these key sectors, showcasing how it addresses traditional manufacturing challenges by reducing production times, eliminating costly tooling, and enhancing product performance through optimized lightweight structures. Industrial case studies highlight LFAM's capability to meet the demands for innovative and sustainable solutions in large-scale production. Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and material innovation are further propelling LFAM's potential. AI-driven technologies enable real-time monitoring, adaptive control, and topology optimization, improving process efficiency, quality, and design capabilities. Simultaneously, the development of advanced metallic materials enhances the mechanical properties and thermal stability of LFAM components, making them suitable for demanding applications. These combined innovations are laying the groundwork for autonomous, intelligent manufacturing systems, and heralding a new era in large-scale additive manufacturing.
