Resumen

Noise is considered as a form of pollution, related to the most relevant elements in the city, such as traffic, urban planning, quality of life, territorial dynamics and economy. In this regard, the involvement of different city departments from the very early stages of this process is seen crucial for the definition of specific actions to reduce urban noise pollution. In this context, the Bilbao City Council identifies the need to define an Action Plan with measures focused not only on reducing noise pollution, but also on improving the sound environment and the preservation of quiet areas. This communication presents the general framework of the Plan development and the steps taken to reach one of its strategic commitments: the identification and preservation of quiet areas within the municipality.
