Resumen

This article shows the work carried out to develop a personal assistance tool based on the use of a PDA (personal digital assistant) to support elderly people on activities of daily living (ADL) that require to have cognitive capabilities like memory, attention or orientation; and by hence to promote their autonomy and independency level. Specific software application modules to be used in a portable device have been developed. The users will have a remote assistant call centre that will provide them several services depending on what they are subscribed to. The personal assistant devices will be programmed, adapted, and updated to the user preferences and needs. In this way, users will have a simple portable device to use, with a friendly and easy to use interface and adapted to their personal traits not only in the services it offers but also in the way they are offered.
